GREGORY MANNING ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE DIV. 2

Manning’s campaign will focus on the cost of living crisis driving New Orleanians out of their city with high utility bills, unaffordable housing, and subpar infrastructure.

LOWER 9TH WARD - Revered Gregory T. Manning will seek election as City Councilmember at-large for Division 2 with a campaign taking on the cost of living crisis facing New Orleanians across the city. Manning’s platform envisions a New Orleans that is an easier place to live through use of the Council’s regulatory powers to reign in high utility costs and corporate utility mismanagement, pursuit of bold affordable housing policy to keep renters and homeowners alike in their homes and neighborhoods, and the establishment of new benchmarks and expectations to ensure efficient and high-quality infrastructure development. Platform specifics are available at www.manningforchange.com.

“The cost of living crisis is killing our culture, and it’s driving out the people who built this city, who keep it running, and who make it the special, one-of-a-kind-place it is. I’m running for them. I’m running to tackle this crisis head on, and to fight for a better New Orleans that is an easier place to live for the people who make it what it is,” says Manning. “The people of New Orleans are tired of low standards. They’re tired of broken promises and excuses. I believe we can set a higher standard for our city, and I believe that together, by bringing the community into the halls of power, we can achieve that standard.”

Manning’s campaign also prioritizes ethical governance in rejecting corporate donors and contributions from active city contractors. Manning led efforts to bar private utility companies from contributing to City Council and mayoral candidates, and has proposed expanding those provisions to include other entities receiving funding from City Hall.

“We must elect leaders who are willing to fight for the health and well-being of future generations. I believe in Pastor Manning’s vision for New Orleans, a vision grounded in justice, compassion, and faith in action. His leadership is exactly what our city needs in this moment” said Gabriela Biro, Orleans Parish School Board member, in her endorsement of Manning.

Manning has served as pastor of Broadmoor Community Church since 2011. He is the founder of the Greater New Orleans Interfaith Climate Coalition, and a co-founder of the Louisiana Just Recovery Network, an service organization that helps displaced residents return to safe and clean homes after severe weather events. Manning was instrumental to the passage of the city’s Renewable Portfolio Standard, mandating that Entergy New Orleans transition to renewable energy, and the ban on municipal political contributions by private utilities. He previously stood as a candidate for Public Service Commission, District 3 in 2022.
